Successful veterinarians display many positive attributes, including compassion, empathy, excellent communication skills, and adaptability. However, I can argue that a veterinarian's most vital quality may be resilience.

A 2014 survey by the AVMA with 11,000 participating U.S. veterinarians found that seventeen percent of the participants had thoughts about suicide. Being mentally and financially invested in this profession can be exhausting when the average individual has almost two hundred thousand dollars in debt directly after graduation. Your passion must drive your purpose to maintain a strong mentality within veterinary medicine.

It is our job as future veterinarians to maintain the desire to build, construct, and grow our knowledge to advance and influence the future of veterinary medicine. Similarly, it is our job as friends, siblings, parents, spouses, family members, etc., to continue playing a vital role in our everyday lives. Being a veterinarian is more than what the average person may perceive it.

Through years of gracious mentors who have taken me under their wing to teach, guide, and direct me within veterinary medicine, they've also taught me that it's much more than being a veterinarian. "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." - Luke 6:38  Therefore, I'm excited to introduce our More than a Veterinarian Scholarship. Through many obstacles, learning opportunities, and grace, I'm thankful I can help give back to the industry that has made me into who I am today.

All proceeds from each Raffle Item through TheTurquoisevet.com will go into the scholarship fund. Currently, eligibility for applicants includes first-year through fourth-year veterinary students. With the high demand from third year of vet school and dealing consistent doctors appointments, lethargy, and physical exhaustion from an autoimmune disease, details for this scholarship have been postponed until further notice. The scholarship will be released at a later date to disclose additional information on an applicant's eligibility status, total scholarships, and available scholarship amount. Thank you for understanding.
